Based on the presentation "Metals and Golden Plates in Measoamerica" \u200b\u200bgiven by Daniel Johnson in October 2010 at the annual conference of the Book of Mormon Archaeological Forum. This presentation presupposes that the geographical region of the Book of Mormon Mesoamerica.
One of the most common criticisms is that the mention of certain metals by the Book of Mormon is anachronistic and "no" evidence in pre-Columbian America. Less, critics say, to even think there was reason to believe that "gold plates." We will rely on the findings shared by Daniel Johnson to refute this criticism.
What is a "plate" writing?
Before I give you a definition are linked to the term "Iron." Understand a "plate" as defined by the Royal English Language Academy, "a flat piece of metal and thin." We will "sheet" containing some type of written information, either historical or religious character.
Metals of the Book of Mormon in Mesoamerica
As the plates are composed of a thin, flat metal, is also important to mention the metals mentioned the Book of Mormon. These are, in alphabetical order:
- Steel (Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon, therefore the latter element is also present implicitly in the Book of Mormon) Bronze
- Copper Iron
- Gold
- Plata
plates mentioned the Book of Mormon categorized by type of metal are
- Brass Plates: among these are the plates of the Hebrew Laban (1 Nephi 3-5,13:23) Lehi brought from Jerusalem that contained the Scriptures until 600 BC and the genealogy of his fathers.
- Golden Plates: The 24 plates Jaredites (Mosiah 8:9, Ether 1:2) and the same Book of Mormon (very possibly an alloy of gold and copper, according to a statement of William Smith, brother of Joseph Smith)
- plates other non-specified: Plates of Nephi (major and minor) and plates of Mormon.
Daniel Johnson, in his presentation, first shown how to distribute the metal in the Mesoamerican region to see if there is indeed support for metals refers to the Book of Mormon:

Looking at this map of the sites of Guatemala, in fact we find sufficient evidence for metals in the Book of Mormon. Is that referred to deposits of gold, copper, iron, silver. [Note from the author of this article: There is also evidence of coal and the manufacture of steel was perfectly feasible. See here ]
If we see a map of Mexico, north of the above, we see that while it is rich in gold, is not rich in iron, such as the above:
Here we look to a global map of the sites, giving us a panoramic and global view of the metals:
Plates gold in the old world
Previously to introduce itself in finding the gold plates in Mesoamerica, Daniel Johnson puts us in the context and summarizes the findings of gold plates and other previous metals in different parts the world:
Small gold plate found in Autria [in the tomb of a Roman boy]. Data from the third century BC It contains a Hebrew transliteration into Greek of Deuteronomy 6:4 "ΑΔΩNΕ ΕΛΩΗ ΣΥΜΑ ΙΣΤΡΑΗΛ ΑΔΩN Α" or English "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one Lord" |

gold plates America
Johnon Daniel shares with us the amazing discovery of gold plates in Mesoamerica. The place where these plates were found is a famous sacred cenote region of Chichen Itza. The articles were of various types including gold plates were found rectangular and circular.

Many objects such as arrowheads, axes, bronze, copper tools.
Also within the findings of Thomson was iron tools in a tomb of a mummy in Costa Rica in 1883, among other objects matching the metals in the Book of Mormon.
plates are of two types:
- fragments rectangular plates of gold
- large circular plates of gold
Some fragments of pre-Columbian gold plates
extracted from the cenote at Chichen Itza, dating from the ninth century BC with hieroglyphics on them
Context of use of circular plates are disks of information
of Toltec warriors. The images above highlight them in hieroglyphics on the wall of
Jaguar Temple at Chichen Itza. These discs served as symbols of power, authority and prophecy and provided a link to the world beyond death. The gold probably came from Central America and was probably recorded in Yucatan
Daniel Johnson also shows exclusive footage of these circular plates of gold with stunning detail of his writing on it:
The writings on these plates had a sacred character, which gives evidence that not only pre-Columbian Mesoamerica written on gold plates, but who also used the technique of engraving on gold plates delgadísmas to perpetuate RELIGIOUS treated.
Conclusion
Many detractors of the Book of Mormon for years were skeptical that the pre-Columbian America are these gold plates written and based on that heavily criticized the statement of Joseph Smith about the absolute impossibility that the Columbian Mormon and Moroni had been able to encapsulate a record of gold plates, as they did at certain times of the old civilizations world.
evidence now, while first-time, is so strong against criticism that once again reaffirming the historical truth of the Book of Mormon and overthrew all previous skepticism to this evidence.
Our thanks to Daniel Johnson for his presentation.
